Wine adventures with no limits…
Go beyond Châteauneuf-du-Pape and you will be rewarded
Whilst Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the most famous appellation (designated area) in the Southern Rhône, it is surrounded by a host of magical neighbours that are worth exploring.
In villages such as Rasteau, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Cairanne you can find wines with a unique terroir, a French term for the sense of place that cannot be replicated. They, amongst other villages including Châteauneuf-du-Pape, are known as ‘Cru’ which is a recognition of exceptional quality and notable unique character. These and other villages offer wines of character and charm, often much more keenly priced than their famous neighbour.
What’s more, the human stories and off-the-beaten track locations make exploring these hidden gems truly a rewarding experience.
Whether you decide to focus your visit on these villages or include one in your trip alongside the historic Châteauneuf-du-Pape, you won’t be disappointed.
