Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most famous names in the world of wine. Its claim as the first appellation in France (or special designated area) has put it firmly on the map, and quality honed over literally thousands of years of grape growing here has kept it there with aplomb.

It is a village and wine producing area that beautifully marries history and modernity from Romans and Popes to groundbreaking new techniques and new waves of styles. The people are diverse, the soils are varied but recognisable, and the number of grape varieties permitted is famously lenient - from classic Grenache and Syrah right through to curiosities that makes even the most seasoned wine taster pause for thought.
